RMSEC in frequently asked questions
Q: Who can join the competition?
A: All undergraduate students of Amity Institute of English and Business Communication, Hindu College University,
Lady Shri Ram College for Women, and St. Stephen's College can join the Ramon Magsaysay Student Essay Competition in India.
Q: Who or what do I write about?
A: The theme of the competition is "The Magsaysay Awardee Who Inspires Me Most." You can therefore choose any of the 256 Magsaysay Awardees. Read about their lives and work, and write a reflection essay on the lessons you have gained from them.
Q: Where can I find reference materials on the Magsaysay Awardees?
A: In doing your research, you can visit the RMAF website, www.rmaf.org.ph for information on the Magsaysay Award, the Magsaysay Awardees' biographical essays and citations, and RMSEC. You may also refer to the following: Book of Citations (book form and CD version), an anthology of the official commendations given to the Ramon Magsaysay Awardess from 1987 to 2002, with updates to 2006 on the web, Great Men and Women of Asia Volumes 1 to 5, and Young Pens for Young Minds.
Q: Can I email my entry?
A: yes, attach your entries to your email to: essaysrmsec@gmail.com.
Q: Can I send more than one entry?
A: Only one entry per contestant is allowed.
Q: Should I put my name on the printed essay?
A: You should only indicate your name on the entry form and not on the printed essay.
Q: How many pages long should my essay be?
A: All essays must be from two (2) to four (4) pages, or 500-1,000 words.
Q: How do I know if I qualify as a finalist? As grand prize winner?
A: All finalists will be notified by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation by email through your school. It is thus important for you to indicate your contact number and address on the entry form.
Q: What are the prizes at stake?
A: Three finalists will each win a personal computer system with hi-speed internet connection and a month-long media internship. The grand prize winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the Philippines to participate in activities during the 2007 Magsaysay Awards Season, meet the year's laureates, and visit the home province of the late Filipino leader who inspired the creation of the Ramon Magsaysay Award.
