At the 17th annual awardees' conference held last November in Chennai, India, Magsaysay laureates offered their views on the Awards continuing relevance
in the dynamic Asian region.

Linkages in greatness...

  • Jon Ungphakorn (Thailand) received the Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 2005, forty years after his father Puey Ungphakorn was honored in the same category in 1965.

  • Father and son Sir Henry and Ronald Holland (Hong Kong) shared the Magsaysay Award for Public Service in 1960, while brothers Horace and Lawrence Kadoorie (Hong Kong) received it in 1962.

  • Four married couples have received the Magsaysay Award together: Silvino and Rosario Encarnacion (Philippines, CL 1968); Rajanikant and Mabelle Arole (India, CL 1979); Aloysius and Nafsiah Mboi (Indonesia, GS 1986); and Abdul Sattar and Bilquis Edhi (Pakistan, PS 1986).
